Saxbys Grand Opening

Saxbys is a new café and program located on the University at Albany’s campus
in the basement of the Massry School of Business. The café is completely student run
from the top to the bottom. Their slogan reads “For students, by students.”
Theo Rhynie is a Senior at UAlbany studying business. He said his professor had
originally told him about the concept for Saxbys and recruited him for a photo shoot.
After the photo shoot is when he was asked to apply. Rhynie is the student CEO in
charge of Saxbys. This brand-new program is earning him college credit towards his
business major while giving him real-world hands-on experience.
His goal for the semester as the first ever student CEO is to “really set the
standard of greatness.” According to Rhynie the thing to try on the menu is the “I’m not
even a coffee drinker but the milk and honey cold brew. Amazing!”
As for the second half of the slogan “for students,” a great perk to Saxbys is its
location and involvement in the meal plans. Located right in the basement of the
Massry School of Business it’s not only right next to classrooms but also the infamous
tunnel system used by many students in the colder months.
Paula, a freshman, stated it was convenient for her to stop by after her “class, which is in the basement right down the hall.”
Saxbys not only takes outside forms of payment, but they also take Damien Bucks. This means students can use their meal plans with a swipe of their ID cards to
buy grilled cheese, matcha or anything else on the menu.
Saxbys is a great café to stop by and an even great program for students to get
involved in.
