Senior Letter 2026: Tori Wilson

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved writing and storytelling. In elementary school, I used to beg the other kids to let me peer review their papers because I enjoyed the editing process that much. Helping others articulate their ideas has always motivated me, and journalism became the perfect outlet for that as I got older.

When I became the ASP’s copy editor two years ago, I hoped to help the paper reach as many students as possible. Words carry so much power, not just to inform, but to connect people and bring new perspectives into focus, and the ASP values that commitment.

I’m incredibly proud of the work this paper has done during my time here, and I know it will continue to thrive under Lucie Burns and the rest of the team. The staff may be small, but their ambition stretches far beyond UAlbany’s campus. Whether it be global stories, issues that affect students, or the pop culture moments that shape our everyday conversations, the ASP covers it all, and I’m so grateful to have been a part of it.

The work wasn’t always easy. More than once, I stayed up later than I wanted to just to get everything submitted on time. But editing became a kind of catharsis, and something I could turn to when my own schoolwork felt overwhelming. Oftentimes, I even found myself looking forward to those late nights spent going through the copy editor’s file.

If you feel like you have something to say, or even if you’re not sure yet, I encourage you to write for the ASP. It’s a chance to stay engaged with campus, to challenge yourself, and maybe even discover a passion you didn’t know you had. Or maybe you’re like me and prefer working behind the scenes, where those roles can be just as rewarding. Either way, there’s nothing quite like watching a story come together after extensive research, interviews, and revisions, and the skills you gain stay with you long after your time at the paper.

Sincerely,

Tori Wilson

Copy Editor (Fall 2024-Spring 2026)
