Emotions and internal thoughts are created within, and sometimes meant to stay within. Expressing oneself through art allows for others to resonate with the emotions being portrayed, but traditionally it is not customary for an artist to write out exactly how audiences are meant to feel. Some do, but it was never common to see many do this.

With the rise of social media, there has also been a rise of people being able to speak and act or even create without having to think. Initially, this may be seen as a positive development; however, I cannot help but wonder why people are so adamant on showing their emotions without attempting to understand others’ as well.

An increase in social media presence and screen time has caused a regression in emotional intelligence. Perhaps the lack of emotional intelligence stems from the lack of thought when expressing oneself. With artificial intelligence being used to create ‘art,’ people are finally beginning to realize that art, or any sort of expression without reflection, does not hold much value.

However, the practice of using technology to express ideas one cannot articulate independently existed long before AI became a mainstream tool. Creating art without understanding the emotions or thoughts behind it is comparable to speaking a language without knowing its meaning. The words may be spoken, but they carry far less significance than those expressed with a deeper understanding.

There was a time where art was silent or it had brief titles, and it remained powerful because the creators acted with purpose. A return to a more meaningful artistic landscape will not come solely from eliminating AI-generated art, but from humans taking the time to sit with and understand their emotions before creating work to share with the world.
