Thursday, September 3
Women’s soccer earned their first win of the season by topping the Stonehill Skyhawks 2-1. Angie McLoughlin and Oluchi Njoku both scored goals in the first half. Six different players recorded shots for UAlbany. The Great Danes were outshot 21-19 by the Skyhawks. In net, Claudia Volino made four saves for UAlbany.
Football was narrowly defeated by the Buffalo Bulls 21-17. Kai Colon went 16-36 passing for 191 total yards and two touchdowns. Joey Koch led the Great Danes in rushing with 60 yards on eight attempts. Rahshan LaMons tallied 32 yards on 11 attempts. BJ Norman led in recovering yards with 67 on six receptions. Justus Murray Jr. and Tavarhi Groves each had receiving touchdowns. On defense, Victor Holt let the way with nine total tackles.
Friday, September 4
Field hockey scored a 4-2 win over the Colgate Raiders. Quinty Reumer found the back of the net twice and recorded eight total shots. Jette Kurz and Emma Staron both had one goal each. Merle Vaandrager made four total saves.
Men’s soccer bested the Dartmouth Big Green 1-0. Ivar Gissurarson scored the game's lone goal in the 35th minute. Gabriel Aron Saevarsson had three shots. Yuta Kimata recorded a pair of shots. In total, UAlbany had nine shots while Dartmouth had seven.
Volleyball was defeated 3-0 by the Syracuse Orange in their opening match at the Cornell Invitational. Campbell Robinson and Pinar Erol tied for the team lead in kills with seven. Madison Hess had 13 assists to lead the Great Danes.
Men’s and women’s cross country competed at the Marist Invitational.
The men’s team finished with 60 points. Jerry Lewis came home in second place, and Isaac Graber finished in ninth. Cole Cosgrove and Owen Stachlik were the other Great Danes to finish in the top 20.
The women’s team finished with 52 points. Skyler Smith came home in first place for UAlbany. Arianna Veradai and Nicole Samson finished fifth and sixth respectively. Lucy D’Alessandro was the other Great Dane to come home inside the top 20.
Saturday, September 5
Volleyball went 2-0 in their second day at the Cornell Invitational.
In their first match of the day, the Great Danes bested hosts, the Conrell Big red 3-2. Pinar Erol recorded a team high 15 kills and added an assist. Campbell Robinson had 12 kills and Mina Benucci and Lilly Lott both had 11 kills. Addy Bianchini dished out 36 assists.
In their second match of the day , UAlbany bested the Howard Bison 3-0. Lilly Lott led the team in kills with 13. Pinar Erol was the other Great Dane to reach double figures in kills, having a total of 10. Maddison Hess played the role of distributor, notching 29 total assists.
Sunday, September 6
Women’s soccer earned their second victory of the week by topping the Le Moyne Dolphins 2-1. Sydney Krofton scored both goals for the Great Danes, including the winner inside the final five minutes of play. UAlbany held a decisive advantage in shots with 22 while Le Moyne had only eight. Claudia Volino made three saves in net.
Field hockey suffered a 9-1 loss to the Yale Bulldogs. Mathilda Prada scored the lone Great Dane goal. Four different players recorded shots for UAlbany. Both Merle Vandraager and Ella Bowman saw action in goal for the Great Danes.
Tuesday, September 8
Men’s soccer bested the rival Siena Saints 2-1 in the Capital Region Derby. Ivar Gissurarson scored both Great Dane goals, netting one in the first half and one in the second half. Yuta Kimata impressed by assisting both of the UAlbany goals. Gabriel Aron Saevarsson was active with two shots on goal. The Great Danes had 11 shots while the Saints had seven. Alexander Genz finished with a pair of saves.
Friday, September 11
Field hockey fell in overtime 2-1 to the Columbia Lions. Pilar Lorenzini scored the lone goal for UAlbany. Four different players had shots for UAlbany. Columbia led in shots by a tally of nine to four. Ella Bowman made four saves in net.
Volleyball fell to the Dartmouth Big Green 3-1 in their opening game at the Ellis Rowland Memorial tournament. Pinar Erol tallied a team high 22 kills. Campbell Robinson had seven kills and a pair of assists. Addy Bianchini led the Great Danes in assists with 22. Maddison Hess also got into double figures in assists with 10.
Saturday, September 12
Football earned a commanding 35-13 win over the LIU Sharks. Kai Colon had his best game of the season so far, going 16-23 for 203 yards and a trio of touchdowns in the air. Aiden Semo went 5-6 for 30 total yards and a passing touchdown, while also compiling 12 rushing yards and scoring a rushing touchdown. Rahshan La Mons had 57 total yards on 11 carries to lead the Great Danes. Bj Norman, Joey Koch and Jordan Rae each had one receiving touchdown. On the defensive side of the ball, Jamari Young and Jeremiah Pruitt tied for the team lead in total tackles with five. Sam Boyer forced a fumble and had one TFL. Shawan Lewis had one sack, and Dillion Dunathan and Victor Holt each had 0.5 sacks.
Men’s soccer fell 1-0 to the Princeton Tigers. Rodrigo Hermelo led the Great Danes in shots with three. Sondre Hladik recorded two shots. In total, six different players had shots. UAlbany outshot Princeton 13-10. Alexander Genz made two saves.
Volleyball dropped their second game of the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament to the host Colgate Raiders 3-1. Pinar Erol once again led the team in kills, notching 19 in total. Lily Lott was not far behind, finishing with 14. Addy Bianchini dished out an impressive 36 total assists. Kiki Provatas had three service aces.
Sunday, September 13
Women’s soccer tied 2-2 with the rival Stony Brook Seawolves. Meredith Blannett and Kiara Levac both found the back of the net for UAlbany inside the final 10 minutes of the game. Sydney Kofton led the Great Danes in total shots with 11. Oluchi Njoku recorded four shots. In total, The Great Danes outshot Stony Brook 30-16. Claudia Volino made two saves in net.
Golf finished fifth at their season opening tournament, the Bucknell Invitational. Mia Cepeda was the highest finisher for UAlbany, finishing tied for 16th place at +12. Sydney Fuke was not far behind, coming home in 19th place at +13. Callie Taylor was the other Great Dane to finish in the top 30, ending tied for 22nd at +16.
Volleyball ended their weekend at the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament with a thrilling 3-2 win over the Northeastern Huskies. Pinar Erol once again led the Great Danes in kills, finishing with 16 total. Campell Robinson and Sabrina Kincaid were the other Great Danes who had double figure kills, finishing with 13 and 12, respectively. Madison Hess had an impressive 47 assists in the victory.
