This past week saw the following results for University at Albany sports:
Tuesday, September 15
Men’s soccer drew 2-2 with the Marist Red Foxes. Gabriel Aron Saevarsson and David Barkan both scored in the second half for the Great Danes. Marist narrowly outshot UAlbany by a total of 13-12. Eight different Great Danes recorded shots. Alexander Genz made two saves in the game.
Thursday, September 17
Volleyball fell 3-0 to the Purdue Boilermakers in their opening game at the Stacey Clark Classic. Pinar Erol led UAlbany in kills with nine. Sabrina Kinkaid, Mina Benucci, Campbell Robinson and Lily Lott all had five kills. Madison Hess recorded 18 total assists.
Friday, September 18
Volleyball dropped a 3-0 decision to the UCF Knights. Pinar Erol once again led the Great Danes in kills, getting 10 total. Lily Lott was second, having six kills. Madison Hess once again had a strong performance, recording 21 assists.
Field hockey was bested 7-2 by the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Mara Kuskes and Quinty Reumer each scored one goal for the Great Danes. Finleigh McClain, Victoria Derdoy and Pilar Lorenzini all recorded one shot each. Merle Vaandrager and Ella Bowman each saw action in net.
Golf emerged victorious over the rival Siena Saints in the Crosstown Challenge. Madison Kuratani finished in first, finishing even on the day. Mia Cepeda and Sydney Fuke tied for third at +6. Callie Taylor and Nicole Criscone tied for seventh at +7.
Saturday, September 19
Men’s and women’s cross country participated at the Jasper Fall Invitational hosted by Manhattan University.
The men’s team finished in 11th out of 12 teams with 315 points. Owen Stachlik was the highest placing Great Dane, coming home in 65th. Zavier Durandisse and Cole Cosgrove finished in 74th and 75th place, respectively. Issac Garber was the other UAlbany finisher in the top 100, finishing in 99th.
The women’s team finished in 8th out of 12 teams with 214 points in total. Skyler Smith finished in ninth place. Arianna Verardi, was just inside the top 30 in 28th place. Lucy D’Alessandro and Nicole Samson were the other Great Danes in the top 100. in 56th and 62nd place, respectively.
Football narrowly fell to the Monmouth Hawks 28-20. Kai Colon was 10-19 passing for 139 total yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Rahshan La Mons led the Great Danes in rushing yards, tallying 87 on 15 carries with a touchdown. Joey Koch had 51 rushing yards on 13 attempts, and also scored a touchdown. BJ Norman had a team-high 63 receiving yards on four receptions. Matthew Iuvara had a 21 yard receiving touchdown for his only catch of the game.
On the defensive side of the ball, Donny Jones and Jeremiah Pruitt each had interceptions. Dana Johnson Jr led in total tackles with nine. Dillion Dunnathan had seven solo tackles.
Sunday, September 20
Men’s soccer defeated the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils 1-0. Yuta Kimata scored the games only goal just before halftime off of an assist from Ivar Gissurarson. The Great Danes had a commanding 10-2 advantage in shots. Alexander Genz had to make just one save in net.
Women’s soccer dropped their America East opener 2-0 to the Maine Blackbears. Oluchi Njoku led UAlbany in shots with three. Maddie Eddy, Brielle Fitzpatrick and Lila Algarin had two shots each. The Blackbears had a narrow 13-12 advantage in shots. Claudia Volino had three saves in net.
Field hockey fell 3-0 to the UMass Minutewomen. Quinty Reumer and Mathilda Prada each recorded one shot. UMass led in shots 11-2. Merle Vaandrager made three saves in net.
