Sports Summary (9/21-9/27)

This past week saw the following results for University at Albany sports:
Friday, September 25
Volleyball dropped their conference opener 3-2 to the UMBC Retrievers. Pinar Erol led the way once again, finishing with 21 total kills. Nia Gibson and Mina Benucci each had nine kills. Lily Lott was not far behind, tallying eight kills. Addy Bianchini recorded an impressive 37 assists. Kasia Barletta had two service aces.
Saturday, September 26
Golf finished ninth at the rain-shortened Princeton Invitational. Mia Cepeda was the highest finishing Great Dane, ending tied for 25th place at +12. Jamie Furstenburg and Madison Kuratani were both tied for 38th place at +15. Callie Brown tied for 47th at +17, and Jessica Brown was tied for 49th at +18 to round out the top 50 finishers.
Football was defeated 22-0 by the Princeton Tigers. Kai Colon was 12-20 passing for 111 yards with one interception. Aiden Semo was 3-5 for 21 yards. Rahshan La Mons rushed for 57 yards on 13 rushes. Joey Koch had 43 yards on eight carries.
Tavarhi Groves led the Great Danes in receiving yards with 81 yards on six receptions. On the defensive side of the ball, Drew Buckley led in total tackles with nine. Dana Johnson Jr and Dillon Dunathan each had five.Victor Holt had the lone UAlbany sack.
Men’s Soccer topped the New Hampshire Wildcats 2-0 in their America East opener. Luca Clausse scored both goals for the Great Danes, netting one in the first half and one in the second half. Benedikt Rachor assisted the first goal and Ivar Gissurarson tallied an assist on the second goal. UAlbany and UNH tied in shots with eight each.
Sunday, September 27
Women’s Soccer bested the NJIT Highlanders 2-0. Sydney Kofton scored a goal, while one goal was an own goal from the Highlanders. Brielle Fitzpatrick led in shots with 6. Oluchi Njoku and Julia DiRaddo each had 4. UAlbany finished with an impressive 28 total shots while holding the Highlanders to just nine. Claudia Volino made three saves in net.
Rowing competed at the Mohawk Fall Classic. The Great Dane A, B, and C boats finished first, second and third respectively in the Women's Collegiate 4+. In the Women’s Collegiate 8+ the Great Danes had several strong finishes. The UAlbany A boat was second, the B boat was in third, the C boat was in fifth and the D boat was in ninth.
