On Saturday, Nov. 15th the University at Albany Football team lost to the Towson Tigers on Senior Day by a score of 36-19.
The game would start in exciting fashion, as Tavhari Groves would return the opening kickoff to mid field. On the first play from scrimmage, Jack Shields would connect with Lasalle Rose Jr. for a 50 yard touchdown. However, the extra point would fail and the Great Danes took a 6-0 lead with 14:47 remaining.
On their first drive of the game, the Tigers would respond with a touchdown of their own from Kemarrion Battles that combined with a converted extra point gave them a 7-6 lead with 12:08 remaining in the first quarter.
Towson would score once again on their second drive of the game, as Kahseim Phillips would find the endzone on a 1 yard run to double the Tigers lead to 14-6 with 2:17 to play in the first quarter.
Great Dane Defensive Linemen Kylyn Macklin would be disqualified from the game with 7:11 left in the second quarter after being flagged for a targeting penalty on Tiger quarterback Andrew Indorf. This call was reviewed as is required when a targeting penalty is called, but it would be upheld and Macklin would be ineligible to play the remainder of the game.
Towson would find the scoreboard once again with 6:17 left in the first half, as kicker Caden Williams would knock in a 31 yard field goal to make the score 17-6.
The Tigers would score yet another touchdown, as Indorf would find John Dunmore in the back of the endzone to push the Towson lead to 24-6 with 3:45 remaining in the 2nd quarter.
UAlbany would recover a muffed punt by the Tigers with 2:27 remaining in the second quarter to give the offense a good starting position. Jack Shields would rip off a 49 yard scramble to set up the Great Danes inside the 10 yard line of Towson. Quarterback Aiden Semo would add another touchdown to increase his touchdown streak. However, the Great Danes would miss their second extra point of the game, as the Towson line would block the kick to make the score 24-12 with 20 seconds left to play in the 2nd quarter. A Tiger kneel would send the teams to the locker room.
The scoring in the first half would start in bizarre fashion, as a botched snap from the Great Danes would roll out of the back of the endzone for a safety to make the score 26-12 in favor of Towson with 11:43 remaining.
Shields would be intercepted for the first time in the game with 4:51 remaining in the 3rd quarter, as he underthrew a pass intended for Tavarhi Groves who was covered by several Towson defenders.
The Great Dane defense would make a huge play at the 3:41 mark, as Troy Berschwinger would recover a fumble out of the hand of Indorff. On the very next play, Jojo Uga would run the ball in for a touchdown that coupled with the first converted UAlbany extra point of the game made the score 26-19 with 3:36 remaining in the 3rd quarter.
Towson would increase their lead back to double digits with 12:01 left in the 4th quarter, as Caden Williams would kick a 47 yard field goal to push the score to 29-19.
UAlbany's comeback bid would end with just under 5 minutes remaining in the 4th quarter, as they would fail to convert a 4th and 8 from near midfield, and the Tigers would take over on downs at the Great Dane 47 yard line.
Towson would find the endzone one final time with 1:56 remaining as Winston Watkins would add a rushing score to make the score 36-19.
Jack Shields would be intercepted one final time on UAlbany's final possession, and the Tigers would emerge victorious 36-19.
The Great Danes’ final game of the season will take place on Saturday (11/22), when they face off against the Monmouth Hawks.
