This past week saw the following results for University at Albany sports:

Wednesday, March 18
Baseball fell to the Army Black Knights 12-2 in seven innings. Tre Mariano hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning. Micheal Maggio had a strong day at the plate going 2-3. The Great Danes recorded a total of six hits. On the mound, four different pitchers saw action. Brian Cadieux went 2.0 innings while surrendering three earned runs and walking four. Jameson Walsh pitched two scoreless innings. Zach Nalawadi went 1.0 innings, giving up eight runs on seven hits. Ethan Nardacci went 1.0 innings, and gave up no runs or hits.
Friday, March 20
Baseball won their America East opener in convincing fashion by a score of 10-4 over the NJIT Highlanders. UAlbany used a four-run first inning as a spring board for the win. Levi McCallister and Tre Mariano each drove in two runs in the opening frame. Luke Fillippi tallied three RBIs. John Vitucci had a strong day at the plate going 3-5. Cooper Loyal had a hit and scored a pair of runs. In total, the Great Danes had a total of 15 hits. On the mound, Christian Mello started the game and went 3.0 innings, giving up one run on three hits. Matthew Mariano picked up the winning decision, going 4.0 innings and surrendering two runs, while also striking out a pair of batters. Mark Gajowski pitched an inning and gave up one run and hit. Tyler Kneller finished the game, going 1.0 innings and giving up a run on two hits.
Saturday, March 21
Women’s rowing had a strong showing at the John Ferris Regatta in Gainesville, Georgia. The Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 8+ boats both emerged victorious. The varsity 4+ squad came in fifth out of 14 boats, and the novice 4+ squad came in third out of five boats.
Men’s outdoor track and field opened their season in Tampa, Florida. Jed Elmbarki was the champion of the 1500m with a final time of 3:50.51, while three other Great Danes finished in the top 10. Steve Hines set a personal record of 1:49.46 in the 800m, and finished fourth overall. Tooni Ogunyeye finished sixth in the 100m.
Women’s outdoor track and field also opened their season in Tampa, Florida. Shenequa Vasell earned a top 10 finish in the 100m. Skyler Smith finished eighth in the 800m and fourth in the 1500m. Amelia Benjamin and Miyanah Robinson finished third and sixth respectively in the high jump. Lalenii Grant was third in the discus and Beatriz Mora Herencia was fifth in the javelin.
Men’s lacrosse earned a road win 10-6 over the UMBC Retrievers. Silas Richmond scored three goals and notched an assist. Seven different players including Koleton Marquis, Kevin Carney and Justin Lee scored goals. Brady Smith made 11 saves for the win.
Women’s lacrosse remained perfect in conference play with a 19-10 victory over the UMass Lowell Riverhawks. Ravan Marsell tallied nine total points, on two goals and seven assists. Jaedyn Fink had a strong day scoring five goals. Paisley Cook and Kloey Roos each scored three goals.
Baseball dropped a close game to the NJIT Highlanders, 5-4 in 10 innings. Levi McCallister once again had a productive day at the plate, finishing with two hits and an RBI. Luke Fillippi scored a run and got on base twice. On the mound, Dylan Banner went 9.0 innings, giving up just two earned runs and striking out seven. Ethan Nardacci went 0.1 innings and surrendered the game winning run.
Softball Split a doubleheader with the Bryant Bulldogs.
In game one, the Great Danes fell by a score of 6-3. Katie Parisi went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI. Taylor Quinn hit a solo homerun. Vanessa Meyers also recorded an RBI. Hailey Errichiello pitched a complete game, going 6.0 innings and giving up six runs on 11 hits while striking out four.
In game two, UAlbany pulled out a 9-3 victory. Katie Parisi led the way, with a home run and four total RBI’s. Three different Great Danes each recorded two RBI’s. In total, UAlbany recorded 10 total hits. Julia Pike pitched a complete game. In 7.0 innings, she gave up three runs on eight hits while striking out and walking two.
Sunday, March 22
Baseball earned a series win over the NJIT Highlanders by winning the game 10-3. The Great Danes bats were active all throughout, as they combined for a total of 15 hits. Micheal Maggio had a strong day, going 3-5 with an RBI and scoring three runs. Logan Morris went 2-6 with a pair of RBIs. Tre Mariano hit a solo homerun in the top of the seventh inning. Levi McCallister went 2-4 and drew two walks. Cooper Loyal had two RBI’s. John Vitucci went 2-4 and drove in a run. On the mound, Christian Mello opened his second game of the weekend, going 2.2 innings and allowing one run and no hits. Ethan Nardacci went 2.1 innings, giving up no runs and no hits while picking up the win, his first of the year. Tyler Kneller pitched a scoreless inning. Ryan Pitz entered the game but did not record an out and surrendered two runs. Mathew Mariano earned the save by pitching 3.0 scoreless innings to close out the victory.
Softball dropped their series finale against the Bryant Bulldogs by a score of 10-2 in five innings. Mary Kate Murrary accounted for the two runs on the day with a two-run home run in the top of the top of the fourth inning. Six Great Danes recorded one hit each. Becca Munslow was credited with the loss after going 0.2 innings and giving up seven runs on four hits. Hailey Errichello pitched the final 4.1 innings, giving up three runs on six hits and recording a strikeout.
