This past week saw the following results for University at Albany sports:

Tuesday, March 3


Men’s basketball fell to the Vermont Catamounts 69-56. Amir Lindsey led the way with 25 points on 9-of-19 shooting while giving out a team high of five assists. Zacharie Matulu and Issac Abidde scored 10 points each. Okechuckwu Okeke grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Great Danes. 


Women’s golf emerged victorious at the Lady Bison Invitational. The Great Danes won by a margin of 18 strokes, besting the Youngstown State Penguins. Thantita Aungsueewong came in first place overall, finishing at +2. Mia Cepeda was not far behind, finishing tied for second place at +6. Callie Taylor was the other top 10 finisher for the Great Danes, coming in ninth at +16.  


Thursday, March 5


Women’s basketball fell to the Vermont Catamounts 55-40 in the America East quarterfinals. Delanie Hill led the scoring with 17 points. Conference rookie of the year Amaya Stewart had seven points. Bella Stuart had six points. Martina Borellas grabbed a team high 13 rebounds. The Great Danes finished the season 14-17 overall and 4-13 in America East competition. 


Friday, March 6


Baseball fell to the St. John’s Red Storm 2-1 in 15 innings. Cooper Loyal, John Vittucci and Micheal Maggio each had two hits. Six different Great Danes contributed for a total of nine hits. On the mound, Dylan Banner started the game, going 6.1 innings, giving one run on five hits while striking out six. Mathew Mariano put in a valiant performance going 7.2 innings, and allowing no runs. Zach Nalawadi went 0.1 innings and surrendered the game-winning run. 


Saturday, March 7


Men’s basketball fell to the UMass Lowell Riverhawks 81-76 in the America East Quarterfinals. Amir Lindsey had a career high of 30 points on 13-of-25 shooting. Okechuckwu Okeke had 16 points and a team high 111 rebounds along with eight blocks. Zacharie Matulu had 14 points. Issac Abidde was the other Great Dane in double figures 13 points. UAlbany finished the season with an overall record of 11-21 and a 7-10 mark in the America East. 


Men’s lacrosse topped the Hobart Statesmen 14-10. Silas Richmond led the way with seven total points on three goals and four assists. Koelton Marquis led the team in goals with four. Ryan Doherty tallied two goals and two assists. Brady Smith made six saves in net. 


Women’s lacrosse earned a road win over the Colgate Raiders 16-13. Ravan Marsell topped the scoring charts with seven total points on five goals and two assists. Paisley Cook tallied four goals and two assists. Grace Cincebox made nine saves. 


Baseball dropped another close game to the Saint John’s Red Storm 5-4. Logan Morris provided the bulk of the offense, going 2-4, including a three-run homerun. Patrick DeSarno and Luke Filippi both scored twice. On the mound, Christian Mello went 5.0 innings, giving up four runs on four hits and striking out two. Ethan Nardacci went 3.0 innings giving up one run on one hit and also striking out two.


Sunday, March 8


Baseball dropped another one run game to the Saint John’s Red Storm, this time losing by a score of 4-3. Logan Morris led the offense, hitting a three-run homerun in the sixth inning to account for all three runs. Cooper Loyal tallied a pair of hits. On the mound, three different pitchers saw action. Brian Cadieux went 3.0 innings, giving up four runs. Tyller Kneller went 3.2 innings, giving up no runs and striking out four. Alex Enea pitched a scoreless 1.1 innings. 


Softball split a doubleheader with the Syracuse Orange. 


In game one, the Great Danes emerged victorious 2-1 in nine innings. Mary Kate Murrary and Katie Parisi each went 1-4 with an RBI to pace the offense. In total, UAlbany recorded four hits. Hayley Wieczerzak pitched a complete game, allowing one run on four hits and racking up 12 strikeouts. 


The Orange would win the second game of the day by a score of 4-2. Sara Anderson and Katie Parisi each had RBIs to lead the offense. Four different Great Danes accounted for a total of four hits. Hailey Errichiello tossed a complete game, giving up four runs on four hits and getting four strikeouts.
