This past week saw the following results for University at Albany sports:

Monday, March 30


Women's lacrosse fell to the Boston College Eagles by a score of 22-5. Ravan Marsell had two goals. Riley Forthofer and Zareena Sorho each scored a goal and recorded an assist. Both Grace Cinebox and Quinn McCarthy saw action in the net. 


Tuesday, March 31


Women’s golf earned a second place finish at the Bermuda Triangle Collegiate. The Great Danes were led by Mia Cepeda who finished tied for sixth overall at +16. Thantita Aungsussewong and Lucia Estaban both finished tied for 10th place at +20. Madison Kuratani finished tied for 18th, Nicole Criscone finished tied for 38th and Callie Taylor was tied for 49th. 


Wednesday, April 1 


Softball swept a doubleheader against the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils. 


In game one, the Great Danes emerged victorious by a score of 4-0. Deanna Grahek and Charlotte Lamb each slugged home runs in the contest. Seven different players combined for a total of 10 hits in the game. Hailey Errichiello put in a strong performance on the mound. She pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just two hits and tallying 13 strikeouts. 


Game two saw UAlbany win by a score of 8-2. Sara Anderson went a perfect 3-3 and scored a run. Katie Parisi hit a two-run homerun. Kasey Conn went 2-2. Nine players combined for 12 total hits. Hayley Wieczerzak pitched 4.0 innings and gave up one run on two hits. Julia Pike pitched 2.0 innings and picked up the winning decision. Becca Munslow went 1.0 innings and gave up one run on two hits


Thursday, April 2 


Baseball fell to the UMass Lowell Riverhawks 4-0. Patrick DeSarno and John Vitucci both went 1-4 with a walk. Brian Guerrero went 1-1. The Great Danes had six total hits. On the mound, Christian Mello went 5.0 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and striking out five. Brian Cadieux went 4.0 innings and gave up one on two hits. 


Friday, April 3


Baseball defeated the UMass Lowell Riverhawks by a score of 7-2. Levi McCallister had a strong day at the plate, going 3-4 and tallying a team high four RBI’s. Jaxon Mueller went 2-3 and drove in a pair of runs. Brian Guerrero went 2-3 as well and drove in a run. The Great Danes recorded 11 total hits. On the mound, Dylan Banner stole the show by throwing a complete game and allowing just two runs on nine hits while striking out six. 


Softball fell to the Binghamton Bearcats 9-3. Mary Kate Murrary hit a solo home run. Sara Anderson went 1-4 with two RBIs. Kasey Conn and Vanessa Meyers each went 1-3 and scored a run. UAlbany finished with nine total hits. Hailey Errichiello was the starting pitcher for the Great Danes, and went 4.0 innings while giving up six runs on nine hits. Julia Pike went 3.0 innings while surrendering three runs on three hits. 


Saturday, April 4


Baseball earned a series victory by besting the UMass Lowell Riverhawks 4-2. Tre Mariano hit a three-run homerun in the fourth inning that proved to be the deciding factor. Patrick DeSarno tallied the other RBI. Zach Mravlja went 2-4 and scored a run. Cooper Loyal went 2-3 and made a spectacular defensive play at short. On the mound, Ethan Nardacci went 3.2 innings and gave up one run while striking out five. Matthew Mariano went 5.1 innings and gave up one run on five hits to pick up the winning decision. 


Men’s lacrosse earned a 16-5 win over the Binghamton Bearcats. Silas Richmond had seven total points (4G, 3A) to lead the way. Ryan Doherty also scored four goals. Kevin Carney scored two goals. Three different Great Danes grabbed four ground balls. Brady Smith and Timmy Vine both saw action in net. 


Women’s lacrosse remained perfect in conference play with a 14-9 win over the UMBC Retrievers. Paisley Cook tallied three goals and three assists. Mya Caroll and Ravan Marsell each scored three goals. Riley Forthofer had an assist. Grace Cincebox made 11 saves on 20 shots. 


Softball split a doubleheader with the Binghamton Bearcats. 


In game one, the Great Danes fell by a score of 6-2. The game was back and forth until a bearcat grand slam in the bottom of the sixth blew the game open. Julia Pike went 2-3 as did Mary Kate Murrary. Katie Parisi had an RBI. Sara Anderson went 1-3. Hayley Wieczerzak pitched a complete game and allowed six runs on seven hits while striking out three. 


In game two, the Great Danes bested the Bearcats 5-2. Katie Parisi went 2-4. Taylor Quinn went 2-3 and had two RBIs. Sierra Roy drove in two runs on a double. Deanna Grahek went 2-4. Seven different players recorded hits for UAlbany. Julia Pike pitched a complete game, giving up two runs on seven hits and striking out five. 


Men's and women's track and field competed at the Dog Fight Challenge, hosted by UConn. 


Jed Elmbarki scored the Great Danes’ lone first place finish, prevailing in the 5000m. Frankie Gonzales finished second in the shot put. Maxim Kurk set a personal best mark in the discus throw. Kennan Grant was third in the 200m.


The women’s team also saw many solid finishes. Skyler Smith emerged victorious in the 800m. In the 200m, Fega Eruotor came in second. Thalia Benoit was second in the 400m hurdles. Nattaly Lindo set a personal record and won the shot put. Keegan Collins was second in the hammer throw.
