This past week saw the following results for University at Albany sports:

Tuesday, April 14


Baseball bested the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils 7-6. Jaxon Mueller had a strong day at the plate going 2-4. Micheal Maggio went 2-5. Brian Guerrero went 2-4 and drove in three runs. Victor Mazzara went 1-2 and drove in a run. Kyle Stephens drove in the game winning run as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the ninth inning. On the mound, Ryan Pitz went 4.1 innings and gave up four runs on six hits. Jameson Walsh gave up five hits and no runs in 3.2 innings. Brian Cadieux pitched a scoreless inning to get the winning decision. 


Softball was defeated by the Siena Saints 12-2 in five innings. Sara Anderson went 1-2 as did Kasey Conn. Jenney Nardelli and Sierra Roy each drove in a run. Five different players had hits for the Great Danes. Hailey Wieczerzak pitched 1.1 innings and gave up six runs on six hits. Hailey Errichiello pitched 2.0 innings and gave up four runs on eight hits. Julia Pike went 1.2 innings and surrendered two runs on two hits. 


Men’s lacrosse defeated the Siena Saints 9-7. Ryan Doherty scored a team high of two goals. Silas Richmond tallied one goal, and two assists for a team-high three points. Brendan O’Keefe scored a goal and had an assist. Max Neeson scored a pole goal. Eight different players scored goals in a balanced offensive effort. Cade Galko grabbed a team-high five ground balls. Jacob Smith caused three turnovers. Brady Smith made 12 saves in net. 



Friday, April 17


Baseball bested the rival Siena Saints 13-10 in a chaotic victory headlined by a six-run seventh inning. Tre Mariano led the offense for the Great Danes, going 2-4 with a pair of home runs and a total of three RBIs. Jaxon Mueller went 2-5. Micheal Maggio went 2-7, and drove in a team high of four runs. Cooper Loyal stayed hot at the plate and drove in a pair of runs. Joe Perri went 1-2 and recorded his first collegiate RBI. 


Patric DeSarno went 1-5 with a solo home run, the first of his UAlbany career. On the mound, Christian Mello started the contest. He got into trouble early, giving up back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the first, but eventually settled into the game. In 4.0 innings, he gave up seven runs on seven hits while striking out seven. Mathew Mariano pitched the final 5.0 innings in relief to pick up the winning decision. In 5.0 innings he surrendered three runs on four hits while striking out four. 


Men’s and women’s track and field hosted the Bobbi Palma Spring Classic and recorded several impressive finishes. 


On the men’s side, the Great Danes tallied several first place finishes. Tooni Ogunyeye set a personal and meet record en route to winning the 100m. Julio Martniez emerged victorious in the 400m. Anthony Couch set a personal and meet record while winning the 400mH. Samir Gardner set a new personal best and won the long jump. 


The women's team also had several impressive finishes. Adaliz Hunt was victorious in the 100m. Skyler Smith set a personal record and won the 800m. Brinesha Derrick-Bain set new personal and meet marks in the 100mH. Marissa Gordon broke her personal best in the long jump. Lindsay Farmer did the same in the triple jump.



Saturday, April 18


Men’s lacrosse dropped a non-conference game to the Yale Bulldogs by a score of 15-2. Jackson Palumb and Zachary Kerner scored one goal each. Cade Galko grabbed six ground balls. Three different Great Danes caused turnovers. Brady Smith made seven saves in net, while Timmy Vine made four. 


Women’s lacrosse dropped their first conference game of the year, 14-4 to the Vermont Catamounts. Ravan Marsell led the way with two points, on one goal and one assist. Mya Caroll, Riley Forthofer and Amanda Williamson all scored goals. Reggie Williams grabbed a team high three groundballs. Grace Cincebox made 14 saves in net. Quinn McCarthy also saw time in the net. 


Baseball dropped both games of a doubleheader against the Siena Saints.


In game one, the Great Danes fell by a score of 10-9. Micheal Maggio went 3-4 and drove in two runs. Brian Guerrero went 2-3 and had a team high of three RBIs. John Vittuci went 1-4 and drove in a pair of runs. Jaxon Mueller went 3-4 and knocked in a run. Patrick DeSarno drove in the other run. On the mound, Dylan Banner worked through trouble early, but gave up five runs in the fourth inning. In 4.0 innings of work, he gave up seven runs on 12 hits and struck out five. Brian Cadieux pitched the final 3.0 innings and surrendered three runs on six hits while taking the losing decision. 


In game two, UAlbany fell 10-4. Luke Fillipi went 1-3 and drove in three runs. Cooper Loyal drove in a run. John Vittuci went 2-3. Levi McCallister went 1-3. On the mound, Ethan Nardacci started the game and went 4.2 innings while giving up just two runs and two hits. Tyller Kneller pitched 1.2 innings and gave up four runs on four hits. Jameson Walsh let in four runs on six hits. 


Softball split a doubleheader against the Bryant Bulldogs. 


In game one, the Great Danes fell by a score of 7-2. Mary Kate Murrary drove in a run. Julia Pike, Taylor Quinn, Katie Parisi and Kaitlyn Parisi each recorded one hit each. Hayley Wieczerzak pitched 3.0 innings and gave up five runs on three hits while taking the loss. Hailey Errichiello pitched the final 4.0 innings and allowed two runs on five hits. 


In game two, the Great Danes won 5-3 in walk-off fashion courtesy of a Julia Pike two run homer in the bottom of the seventh. Pike went 2-4 in the game including the homerun and also pitched all 7.0 innings while giving up just three runs on six hits. Taylor Quinn also went 2-4 and drove in two runs. Sierra Roy went 2-3. Mary Kate Murrary went 1-3 and drove in a run. Sara Anderson and Katie Parisi both went 1-3.
