This past week saw the following results for University at Albany sports:

Wednesday, April 8


Baseball earned a midweek win by besting the LIU sharks 6-5. Tre Mariano went 3-5 and had two RBIs on a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning that proved to be the game decider. John Vittuci went 2-2, scored a run and drew two walks. Luke Fillipi went 2-3 and drove in a run. Cooper Loyal went 1-2, drove in a run and drew a pair of walks. On the mound, Mark Gajowski went 4.0 innings and gave up three runs on four hits while striking out five. Ryan Pitz went 2.0 innings and gave up one run and one hit. Zach Nalawadi went 1.2 innings and gave up one run on one hit. Tyller Kneller pitched the final 1.2 innings and gave up no runs and two hits. 


Softball split a double header with the rival Siena Saints. 


In game one, the Great Danes emerged victorious 5-3 in eight innings. Mary Kate Murrary went a perfect 3-3. Taylor Quinn went 2-4 and tallied three RBI. Katie Parisi 2-4 with a pair of RBIs. Kaitlyn Parisi went 1-2 to account for the other hit. Hailey Errichiello went 4.0 innings and gave up one run on three hits. Julia Pike went 4.0 innings and gave up two runs on three hits. 


In game two, Siena beat UAlbany 5-4. Julia Pike went 2-3 with an RBI as did Katie Parisi. Deanna Grahek went 1-4 with an RBI. Ava Beal went 1-3 while Mary Kate Murrary went 2-4. Hayley Wieczerzak went 2.3 innings and gave up five runs on seven hits while striking out eight total batters. 


Friday, April 10


Baseball was defeated by the Bryant Bulldogs 15-5. The Great Dane offense was led by Jaxon Mueller who slugged a two run homerun. John Vitucci went 1-3. Tre Mariano went 2-4 with an RBI. Brian Guerrero went 1-2 and drove in a run. On the mound, Christian Mello gave up 10 runs on five hits in 2.1 innings. Brian Cadieux went 3.2 innings and surrendered five runs on four hits while striking out one. 


Saturday, April 11


Baseball bounced back and bested the Bryant Bulldogs 6-3. Levi McCallister had a strong day at the plate, going 4-5 and driving in two runs. Brian Guerrero went 1-4 and also drove in a pair of runs. Tre Mariano went 1-4 with an RBI. Jaxon Mueller took a 2-5. Cooper Loyal had two hits. John Vittucci went 1-5 and scored a run. On the mound, Dylan Banner went 6.0 innings strong, giving up three runs on eight hits and striking out 10 batters. Mathew Mariano pitched 3.0 innings in relief and gave up no runs, no hits and picked up the win. 


Men’s lacrosse topped the Vermont Catamounts 12-9. Silas Richmond led the way with six points (4G, 2A). Ryan Doherty tallied a hat trick. Max Neeson scored a pair of pole goals. Koleton Marquis scored a goal. Brendan O’keffe had two assists and grabbed a team high four ground balls. In net, Brady Smith made nine saves. 


Women’s lacrosse remained perfect in conference play by besting the Bryant Bulldogs 9-8. Ravan Marsell led the way with three goals. Catrina Rowe had two assists. Mya Caroll had two goals. Paisley Cook had a goal and an assist while getting six draw controls. Grace Cincebox made an impressive 15 saves in net. 


Softball earned a non conference victory over the Fordham Rams by a score of 5-4. Taylor Quinn went 1-3 with a pair of RBIs. Sara Anderson went 2-3. Katie Parisi went 2-4 and drove in a run. Kasey Conn went 1-2 and scored a run. Hayley Wieczerzak pitched 6.0 innings and gave up one run on four hits. Hailey Errichiello went 1.0 innings and gave up three runs but just one hit. 


Men’s and women's track and field both competed at the RPI Under the Lights event. 


The men’s team recorded 12 total first place finishes. Notable performances include Julio Martiniez winning the 400m. Isac Graber prevailed in the 1500m. Jacob Smith won the 5000m with a top five time in program history. Frankie Gonzalez won the shot put and set a personal record. 


The women’s squad also had several athletes take victories. Shantae Price won the 200m. Taylor Rogers set a personal record while winning the 400m. Brinesha Derrick-Bain finished first in the 100m hurdles, and Thalia Benoit was first in the 400m hurdles. Marissa Gordon set a personal record in winning the long jump. Nattaly Lindo won the shot put with a top 10 mark in program history. 


Sunday, April 11


Baseball fell to the Bryan Bulldogs 15-5. Patrick DeSarno led the way, going 4-5 including a two run single. Micheal Maggio went 2-5. Luke Fillippi went 1-4 and scored a run. Cooper Loyal went 1-4 with an RBI. On the mound, Ethan Nardacci went 4.0 innings and surrendered four runs on three hits. Tyler Kneller gave up five runs on 1.0 innings of work. Mark Gajowski went 2.0 innings and gave up three runs. Zach Nalawadi went 0.2 innings and let in three runs. 


Women’s golf recorded a sixth place finish at the Rutgers Invitational. Jasmine Furstenburg was the highest placing Great Dane, coming in 14th place at +18 overall. Lucia Esteban was 26th overall at +23 alongside Mia Cepeda to round out the top 30 finishers. 


Women’s rowing finished up their performance at the Knecht Cup Regatta. The Varsity Eight + squad came home in sixth place. The second Varsity eight+ squad finished fourth in their race. The varsity four+ team recorded a fifth place finish, and the novice four+ team was in fourth place in their race.
