Sports Summary (9/22-9/28)

This past week saw the following results for University at Albany sports:


The UAlbany Rowing team opened their season on Sunday afternoon (9/28).

Tuesday, September 23

Men's Soccer drew 0-0 with the Siena Saints. Jordan Shullenberger and Alexander Clive both tied for the team lead in shots with two. In total, the Saints outshot the Great Danes 8-7, but both teams had four shots on goal. In net, Andrej Krivokapic made three saves and recorded a clean sheet. 


Friday, September 26

Volleyball swept their conference opener 3-0 over the Binghamton Bearcats. Shynelle Woroniuk led the charge for the Great Danes with 15 kills and 7 digs. Maria Olga Siapani notched 27 assists, and Kasia Barletta recorded 2 aces. 


Saturday, September 27

Men’s Soccer drew their conference opener 1-1 with the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) Highlanders. Roko Branko Mrvelj recorded the first UAlbany goal. Ivar Gissurarson tallied five shots, and Andrej Krivokapic made four saves in net. 


Football was bested by the New Hampshire Wildcats in its CAA opener by a score of 24-6. Colin Parachek performed admirably in his first start for the Great Danes, finishing 21-42 with 181 yards, a TD and an interception. Kylen Austin had four receptions tallying 56 yards. On defense, Troy Berschwinger and Parris Smiley had nine tackles each. Balansama Kamara led the way on the defensive line with two sacks. 


Sunday, September 28

Women’s Soccer defeated the NJIT Highlanders 2-1. Madison Hnis scored the opener in the 33rd minute, and Casey Stowell scored the game winner in the last minute of play. The Highlanders outshot the Great Danes 25-15. Claudia Volino tallied nine saves. 


Volleyball dropped a 3-1 decision to the Bryant Bulldogs. Shynelle Woroniuk had 13 kills. Tori Wilson added six kills and two digs. Elif Yasar dished out 22 assists. 


Rowing started their season with a pair of victories in the Mohawk Valley Classic. Both the 4 + and 8 + squads won first place. The winning time for the 4 + was 15:40.22 while it was 14:40.52 for 8 +.
