This past week saw the following results for University at Albany sports:

The UAlbany men’s soccer team suffered their first home defeat of the season on Tuesday night.

Tuesday, September 9
Men's Soccer was defeated at home by the Marist Red Foxes 2-1. Ivar Gissurarson scored the sole Great Dane goal early in the first half. UAlbany was outshot 12-6 by Marist. The Great Danes committed 10 fouls to the Red Foxes 6.
Thursday, September 11:
Women’s Soccer tied 0-0 with the Holy Cross Crusaders. Claudia Volino tallied nine saves for the Great Danes to secure the draw. The Crusaders led in shots 18-10. Hailey Hnis tallied a pair of shots for UAlbany. Holy Cross committed 13 fouls to the Great Danes tally of 9.
Friday, September 12
Volleyball earned a 3-0 victory over the Dartmouth Big Green in their first game of the Boston College Invitational. Shynelle Woroniuk had 14 kills, while Maria Olga Siapani had 31 total assists.
Golf scored a victory over the Siena Saints in the season opening crosstown challenge. The Great Danes finished at +16 while the Saints finished at +41.
Field Hockey dropped a close 1-0 decision to the Liberty Flames. Emma Staron had the Great Danes lone shot on goal. Emma Peeters had four saves on five shots faced.
Saturday, September 13:
Volleyball was on the wrong end of a 3-0 decision against the Sacramento State Hornets. Shynelle Woroniuk recorded 10 kills and 5 digs. Elif Yasar tallied 12 assists, while Brooke Malek added an ace.
Men’s and Women’s Cross Country competed at the Jasper invitational hosted by Manhattan University. The men finished 10th out of 16 teams. Freshman Owen Stachlik was the highest finisher for the men's team at 24th overall. The women’s team finished 12th out of 16 teams. Arianna Verardi finished 46th with a time of 22:52.1.
Football dropped their home opener to the New Haven Chargers 24-17. Jack Shields finished 31-53 for 396 yards with 2 interceptions and a touchdown. Griffin Woodell and Tavarhi Groves both scored touchdowns for UAlbany. James Bozek was 1-2 on field goal attempts.
Sunday, September 14:
Women’s soccer dropped a 2-0 decision on the road against the Rider Broncos. Claudia Volino tallied 3 saves, while Hailey Hins recorded 4 shots to lead the Great Danes.
Field Hockey got back in the win column with a 3-0 victory over the Longwood Lancers. Jenna Zunic, Pilar Lorenzini and Tessa Overgoor all scored goals for the Great Danes. Olivia Bell, Mara Kuskes and Emma Staron all tallied assists.
Volleyball fell just short in a 3-2 loss to the Boston College Eagles. Shynelle Woroniuk had 28 kills to lead the Great Danes. Brooke Malek had an impressive 20 digs and Tori Wilson recorded 5 blocks.
