The University at Albany Women's Basketball team won 65-41 Monday (11/10) over the Dartmouth Big Green.

“It was just a great team effort,” said head coach Colleen Mullen of her team's performance Monday night.

The opening minutes did not go UAlbany’s way, as Dartmouth’s full-court press and different defensive looks forced early turnovers. Missed shots for the Great Danes forced an early timeout by Mullen with 7:22 remaining in the first quarter with Dartmouth leading 7-0.

Out of the timeout, Mullen subbed in freshman forward Amaya Stewart, who immediately made an impact by scoring inside with a quick basket to stop the run, giving the Great Danes the spark they needed.

As the quarter progressed, the Great Danes began to find their rhythm offensively. Delanie Hill knocked down a three-pointer with 2:51 left in the first quarter to help the Great Danes take the lead 10-9. Martina Borrellas’ layup at the buzzer capped off a 19-4 run to end the first quarter.

A midrange jumper from Amaya Stewart opened the second quarter for the Great Danes. UAlbany’s defense then took control, holding Dartmouth scoreless for four minutes.

A block by Martina Borrellas at the 6:50 mark fired up the team and the crowd, forcing a Big Green timeout with UAlbany leading 23-11.

In the closing seconds of the half, Gabriella Falcão made a jumper to put UAlbany up 34-21 heading into halftime.

At the half, Stewart led the way with 11 points and five rebounds while Borrellas added eight points, three rebounds, two steals and a block at the half.

The Great Danes carried that momentum into the third quarter. Anaïs Levasseur opened the half with a three-pointer at the 7-minute mark, and Falcão added a quick post layup shortly after, making Dartmouth take another timeout with 6:20 left of the third quarter.

By the 2:57 mark, UAlbany had extended its lead to 45-27. The team’s hustle, ball movement and defensive pressure continued to shine, and the Great Danes ended the third quarter leading 53-29.

Dartmouth opened the fourth on a 10-2 run, forcing UAlbany a timeout. The Great Danes answered with Falcão’s layup off a Hill pass and then two possessions later a dagger three from Lara Langermann with 1:56 left to seal the deal.

UAlbany would go on to close out the win 65-41, sending the crowd of 1,207 fans home happy.

The Great Danes were led on the scoring charts by Amaya Stewart with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Lara Langermann added 12 points, all of which came from three pointers. Delanie Hill led in assists with seven, while also adding three steals.

Dartmouth was led in scoring by Dartmouth’s Olivia Austin with 16 points.

After the game, Amaya Stewart and Martina Borrellas reflected on their performances.

“The little things I do build my confidence, so when I’m on the court, I’m ready,” said Stewart.

Borrellas, who has already been a steady leader of the Great Danes, emphasized her team-first approach. “I just don’t care about stats,” Borrellas said.

Coach Mullen praised her team’s developing identity moving forward. “Our team’s identity is number one… competitor,” she said. “We want to fight. The non-negotiables are effort and focus.”
